Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell has been recognized with the 2016 GR3een Elected Official award, presented by the North Texas Corporate Recycling Association (NTCRA). The award recognizes efforts of North Texas businesses, governments, colleges and individuals who make outstanding contributions toward reducing waste. Mayor Terrell was nominated by Community Waste Disposal, Allen’s trash and recycling service contractor.
In addition to providing residential curbside recycling services, the City of Allen collects household hazardous waste (HHW) through scheduled pickups and conducts two major recycling events each year: Allen Recycles Day and the Great American Cleanup. In addition, the City contributes to recycling efforts through ongoing education and outreach facilitated by Keep Allen Beautiful. Allen is the home of Market Street Allen USA, the largest waste-free event in North Texas.
NTCRA exists to promote recycling and the use of recycled goods to area businesses through leadership, advocacy and education. Mayor Terrell will be honored at the GR3een Award ceremony on Sept. 16 at Dallas Arboretum.
