The City of Allen earned several marketing awards from the Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA), presented at the organization’s annual conference held earlier this month in San Antonio, Texas.
Three Parks and Recreation programs and events were recognized by the organization for their marketing as being the best in the state for their category: the 2012 Lone Star Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship, SNAP Dance and The Tom Thumb Texas Stampede.
The Lone Star Conference Championship Basketball Tournament earned recognition as the “Best New Event” in the state. The event featured four days of NCAA basketball competition hosted at Allen Event Center (February 29-March 4, 2012) with a resulting economic impact for the City of Allen of more than $500,000. The tournament returns to Allen Event Center March 6-9, 2013.
Among the most popular Special Needs and Adapted Programming initiatives for the City of Allen are monthly SNAP dances held at the Recreation Hall. A Public Service Announcement (PSA) produced by Allen City Television was recognized in the category of Best PSA by TFEA.
The Tom Thumb Texas Stampede attracts top performers from across the country to Allen Event Center each November. The event features various rodeo events as well as a Western Heritage Festival with art, live music, food and children's activities. TFEA awarded the event “Best Photography” for the work of Mike Mezeul II, the arena’s house photographer. The Tom Thumb Texas Stampede returns to Allen Event Center November 8-10, 2012.
TFEA represents the hundreds of festivals that celebrate the history, legends, culture, art, folklore and natural beauty of the Lone Star State. The Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA), an official affiliate of the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA), is a professional trade association for Texas-based festival and event planners, volunteers and suppliers.
