Collectors of vintage and luxury cars could soon find their perfect parking spot in Allen. A new storage facility catering to car enthusiasts will soon begin construction off Stacy Road and Chelsea Boulevard.
The property, previously zoned for a shopping center, will now offer five buildings of luxury “garage condos.” Clients will purchase—not rent—the garage spaces, allowing them to create custom interiors perfectly suited to their automotive needs. Units will be outfitted with both electricity and plumbing; owners will pay an HOA fee to cover shared costs, such as landscaping. Owners will be prohibited from performing major repairs, selling cars or residing on the property.
Cornerstone Development opened its first Garages of Texas property in March; it sold all 69 units while the property was still under construction. One owner paid nearly $760,000 for four units, according to Cornerstone president Fred Gans.
“There are so many car collectors out there that have no place to put their collectibles,” said Gans. “We’ve created a country club for car owners. It’s really pretty neat.”
Development plans also call for the addition of a general warehouse/storage facility and a future restaurant. Allen City Council approved the requested zoning change during the Sept. 13 meeting.
