The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 2:20 p.m. The test will last approximately one minute.
Television, radio, cable and satellite system providers will all participate. The test will help evaluate new measures adopted by the Federal Communications Commission to ensure all members of the public, including non-English speakers and individuals with disabilities, receive emergency information.
The message will clearly state that the alert is only a test of the EAS. Wireless emergency alerts, including alerts to mobile devices, will not be tested at this time.
