The search for a rare wine or craft beer will soon be a little easier for Allen residents.
Allen City Council approved plans to add a Total Wine and More location during the council meeting on Sept. 27. The 22,000-square-foot store will be built at The Village at Allen, across from Olive Garden.
The property is currently occupied by the Canine Commons dog park. Though the size of the dog park will be reduced, the park will remain open during and after construction.
Total Wine and More is the largest independent retailer of fine wine in the United States. According to its website, its stores typically carry more than 8,000 different wines, 2,500 varieties of beer, and 3,000 spirits.
Voters approved a measure to allow package sales of all alcohol, including liquor, during the election on May 5. Previously stores were only permitted to sell beer or wine. Total Wine and More applied for a specific-use permit for the Village at Allen site following the election.
