Peter H. Vargas will bring decades of leadership experience to his new role on the board of trustees for the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool (TMLIRP).

Vargas was appointed chair of the board earlier this year. His term began Oct. 1. Vargas previously served as the board’s vice chair, and as chair of the Pool’s Underwriting & Claims Committee.

The TML Intergovernmental Risk Pool serves nearly 2,800 member cities and other government organizations with a stable source of risk financing. The pool focuses on loss prevention efforts that lead to fewer workers’ compensation, property and liability claims.

Hired as Allen City Manager in 1999, Vargas has led the city through an unprecedented period of growth and discovery. During this time, Allen’s population has more than doubled, from 43,000 to over 90,000. He previously served two years as the Executive Director of the City of Dallas’ Trinity River Corridor Project. In addition to his Dallas experience, Vargas has more than 33 years of municipal management background in Colorado and Texas.
