Allen’s thriving trail system is about to get even bigger.
Council members have approved a $59,000 contract to design the Cottonwood/Heritage Village Hike and Bike Trail Connection. The trail will link Hydrous Wakeboard Park, Allen Senior Recreation Center and the Allen Heritage Village.
The 12’-wide trail will include a pedestrian bridge spanning a wooded area between Allen Senior Recreation Center (ASRC) and Hydrous. The concept plan also calls for additional amenities such as raised vegetable gardens, arbors, benches and sidewalk connections that will provide several looped walking paths around ASRC.
Construction will be funded by the Allen Community Development Corporation (CDC) and a matching grant of $357,500 from the Collin County Parks and Open Space Project Funding Assistance Program. The CDC will also cover the cost of the design contract through dedicated trail construction funds.
