An Allen-based manufacturer of police body cameras is one step closer to building a new headquarters.
Council members approved development plans for the new WatchGuard Video site during the Dec. 13 meeting. The complex will be located on the northeast corner of Exchange Parkway and Andrews Parkway, just south of Andrews Distributing.
The first phase of construction will include a 140,000-square-foot building with two loading areas. The second phase will add another 60,000 square feet, either as an attached expansion or a stand-alone building. The building exterior will be fashioned from concrete, steel, aluminum and glass.
Before moving into the facility, WatchGuard must install deceleration lanes along Exchange Parkway and Andrews Parkway. The lanes will allow employees and visitors to enter the parking lot without slowing traffic.
WatchGuard Video is presently located on Century Parkway, two miles away from its future headquarters. The company leases its current space but wanted to build a more permanent presence in Allen.
The company plans to open its new headquarters by the end of 2017, according to the Allen Economic Development Corporation.
