The Allen Parks and Recreation Department’s recreation services manager, Travis Cunniff, was honored with the 2017 Jerry D. Garrett Memorial Young Professional Award by the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS).
The Young Professional Award annually recognizes one outstanding professional in the entire state in the field of Parks and Recreation who is committed to advancing the industry through leadership, work accomplishments and volunteerism. Cunniff’s active involvement in TRAPS and other related organizations, promotion of parks and recreation and additional outstanding contributions to the profession made him stand out among other nominees, earning him the highly respected award.
Travis joined Allen Parks and Recreation in 2014 as the Allen Senior Recreation Center Supervisor. During his tenure, the facility’s existing programs set record attendance, and new innovative classes were developed, including a complimentary U.S. citizenship course, which helps non-naturalized immigrants prepare for citizenship exams. After two years at the senior center, Travis was promoted to Recreation Services Manager for the parks and recreation department.
TRAPS is a nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to advancing the profession of parks, recreation and leisure services in Texas through educational and professional efforts.
