Free films and a special event for crime victims will offer support and build awareness during Crime Victims' Rights Week, observed during the first week of April.

The Collin County Crime Victim's Council will present two free films at Allen Public Library. Audrie & Daisy tells the story of two teenage girls who were sexually assaulted by friends, then experienced further trauma when videos and photos were passed around. The film sheds light on drug-induced sexual violence, along with harassment and bullying.  The film showing and discussion will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at the Allen Public Library Civic Auditorium (300 N. Allen Drive).

A second film, Sin by Silence, shows how women inside prison cope and help others in the system stop the cycle of violence. It highlights a group called "Convicted Women Against Abuse" which was formed in a California prison to educate and bring awareness to battered women. The film will be shown at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 6 at the Allen Public Library Civic Auditorium. Admission to both films is free.

Also in April, the Collin County Crime Victim's Council will honor crime victims and their families during "An Evening of Empowerment." This special event offers makeovers, parenting resources, legal aid and mental health resources to victims of crime.
