[ARCHIVED] Keep Holiday Celebrations Safe (and Legal)

fireworks_ban

Planning a patriotic celebration this summer? Make sure fireworks and drunk driving aren't parts of the party.

The discharge of fireworks is strictly prohibited within Allen city limits without a special permit, as part of City Ordinance No. 2239-11-03. Please contact the Allen Fire Marshal at 214.509.4400 about the safe disposal of fireworks.

The July 4 holiday is one of the deadliest holidays of the year due to drunk driving crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 188 people were killed in drunk driving crashes over this holiday in 2016. Nearly half of those who died were in a crash involving at least one driver with a BAC of .15 or higher - almost twice the legal limit.

If you leave your house to drink over this holiday, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride share service to get home safely. Have a friend who is about to drive drunk? Take away the keys and make arrangements to get them home safely. If you see a drunk driver on the road, call 9-1-1.
