[ARCHIVED] APD Honors Officers, Volunteers at Annual Awards Ceremony


The Allen Police Department is celebrating more than forty officers, volunteers and staff members for their exceptional insight, dedication and initiative.

The department’s annual recognition ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 24. The awards honor citizens, officers and non-sworn staff members who contribute to the work of Allen Police.

The ceremony highlighted moments of compassion and quick thinking displayed in 2016, from calming a man on the verge of taking his own life to spotting a bank robbery in progress. The department also recognized staff members for critical but less visible tasks, such as talking a 9-1-1 caller through the steps to perform CPR and researching scams used by a particular criminal organization in North Texas.

More than 40 individuals received awards, including:

  • TCOLE Certification Awards: Adrienne Boswell, Kim Koenig, Courtney Purser (Basic Telecommunicator); Carrie Mills-Newton, Alyssa Heller, Sarah Hogue (Intermediate Telecommunicator)
  • Sworn TCOLE Peace Officer Certification Awards: Aaron Bond, David Childers, Alan Thiele (Intermediate Peace Officer); Justin Arsenault, Sean Fourcand, Thomas Sprague, Sammy Terrazas-Ramirez (Advanced Peace Officer); Hiram Castro, Tyson Parks, Mark Smajstrla (Master Peace Officer)
  • Award of Team Excellence: Cpl. C.D. Mayfield, Cpl. Jason Wiser, Investigator Leo Shkolnikov, Investigator Robert Henbest, Investigator Chris Simpson, Investigator Tim Dowd, Ofc. Matt Johnson, Ofc. Garrett Courtney, Ofc. David Upvall, Ofc. Thomas Sprague, Ofc. Manuel Castro, Ofc. Jared McConathy, K-9 Ofc. Matt Koehrsen, K-9 Officer Aaron Bond
  • Meritorious Conduct Bar: Sgt. Robert Hemmenway, Officer Chance Graves
  • Life Saving Bar: Ofc. Tyson Parks, Ofc. Christa Weisinger, Cpl. Frank Page, Ofc. Hiram Castro
  • Chief’s Non-Sworn Award: D’Ann Hamill
  • Chief’s Sworn Award: Investigator Brandon White
  • Civilian Employee of the Year: Crime Analyst Jamie Aguilar
  • Communication Technician of the Year: CTO Holly Hernandez
  • Rookie of the Year: Officer Michael Canon
  • Investigator of the Year: Investigator Tim Dowd
  • Supervisor of the Year: Cpl. C.D. Mayfield
  • Officer of the Year: Thomas Sprague

Allen Police also recognized two department volunteers. Joe Jewett earned the VIP Volunteer of the Year. Larry Tippin was named Citizen on Patrol of the Year.
