[ARCHIVED] Residents Won’t Pay More for Trash, Despite Rate Increase

Despite a $55,000 hike to residential trash and recycling costs, the City of Allen won’t pass along the extra charges to customers.

During the May 23 meeting, Allen City Council voted to maintain the current residential rate for trash and recycling service at $15.59 per month. This rate includes one trash and one recycling cart.

Rather than raising monthly rates by $0.15 per household, the City will use reserves from the solid waste fund to cover the $55,000 increase.

The City of Allen maintains a contract with CWD to collect trash and recycling. Each year, CWD adjusts the amount it charges the City based on updates to the Consumer Price Index and changes in brush/yard waste collection expenses.

Allen has not increased the monthly trash rate paid by residents since June 1, 2010.
