More than 4,000 pairs of shoes are headed to people in need thanks to Allen residents and Keep Allen Beautiful.
The annual Reuse-a-Shoe Contest provided 4,274 pairs to Soles4Souls. The non-profit helps to combat poverty by providing shoes to adults and children around the globe. Keep Allen Beautiful collected shoes from local elementary schools, City of Allen employees and Allen residents who participated in the Great American Cleanup.
Allen City Council recognized top elementary school participants during the council meeting on May 23. Three students at Bolin Elementary helped their school win first place with 887 pairs of shoes. Gemma Easton (197 pairs), Teaghan Webster (100 pairs) and Brennane Aveard (64 pairs) contributed nearly 40% of the school’s total haul!
Evans Elementary received second place with 664 pairs of shoes. Anderson Elementary earned 3rd place with 504 pairs.
