A uniquely-themed playground will soon replace aging swings and slides at Allen’s Green Park.
The playground, located near the intersection of Alma Drive and Comanche Drive, is due for replacement after 18 years of use. Because the playground is located behind Fire Station #4, Allen Parks and Recreation staff asked companies to submit designs with a first-responder theme.
One company exceeded expectations, offering a custom playground design with City of Allen details. City council members approved a $302,500 contract with Game Time by Total Recreation Products during the June 13 meeting. The cost of the new equipment will be covered by a combination of Community Development Corporation funding, neighborhood park bond funds and park dedication fees.
The new equipment is expected to be installed by fall 2017.
