Allen Police welcomed two new officers and promoted two others during an emotional ceremony on Friday, July 7.

The event began with a moment of silence honoring five Dallas Police officers who died in an ambush one year earlier. Before administering officers’ oaths, Chief Brian Harvey thanked officers and their families for their commitment to public safety.

Justin Delacruz and Hugo Armendariz were sworn in after their successful completion of all required trainings. Delacruz is a 2017 graduate of the Collin County Community College Basic Police Academy. Armendariz served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force before joining the El Paso Police Department, where he served for over a year.

The ceremony also recognized two promoted officers. Officer Thomas Sprague was promoted to Corporal after seven years with the Allen Police Department. Sgt. Kyle Taliaferro, who began his career with Allen Police in 2004, was promoted to Lieutenant.

In a show of support for all peace officers, Allen Police joined departments across the state by turning on their red and blue lights at 10 a.m.
