If you lost a tree limb during recent storms, follow these instructions for disposal.
- STEP 1: Assess the damage. Twigs and small branches (no more than 4 inches in diameter) may be tied in 4-foot bundles with biodegradable twine for collection on your assigned trash day. Bundles must be no heavier than what one person can lift. Customers may place up to seven bundles per week at their trash collection point, at least two feet away from trash carts. Bundles should be taken to the collection point no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before collection.
Larger branches and limbs will be collected monthly on your assigned collection day. (See Step 2.)
- STEP 2: Identify your assigned loose brush collection day. CWD will collect up to three cubic yards (about the size of three washing, machines, placed side-by-side) of large loose brush per customer, per month. The schedule is based on your trash day.

If you need to dispose of larger amounts of loose brush, consider using a DIY disposal option, hiring a contractor or contacting CWD at 972.392.9300 (option 2) to receive a custom quote for disposal. CWD will not collect tree debris cut by commercial contractors. You must negotiate removal fees when paying a contractor to trim or remove trees.
- STEP 3: Call CWD to request pickup. Loose brush will not be collected unless you request pickup from CWD. Requests must be made by noon on the day before your assigned collection. Call CWD at 972.392.9300 (option 2) to schedule.
- STEP 4: Trim branches to required size. Branches must be no longer than 6 feet in length for loose brush collection.
- STEP 5: Stack correctly. Place limbs and brush at your typical trash collection point no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before collection. Keep the pile at least two feet away from trash/recycling carts. Do not allow brush to block streets, sidewalks or alleys.
Residents may also take advantage of North Texas Municipal Water District’s DIY disposal option. Yard trimmings and tree limbs may be taken to the NTMWD Custer Road Wood Grinding Facility (9901 Custer Road, Plano) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday (except holidays). Residents must show a current City of Allen water bill and drivers license with matching address. Loads must arrive in a car, pickup truck or flat-bed rental truck (available at home improvement stores). No commercial loads, tree chipper trucks or box trucks are permitted to use this free service. Residents are allowed two loads of yard waste per month.
Your homeowner’s association may have additional rules for tree branch cleanup, storage and disposal. Please note that the City of Allen will not be doing any special collections following recent storms.
