The City of Allen is cooperating with agencies statewide to provide support for areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
On Monday evening, four Allen firefighters - along with a City fire engine - were deployed with the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System. Captain Mark Clamon, Firefighter/Paramedic Justin Sullivan, Captain Matt Madding and Firefighter/Paramedic Shane Reed will help with rescue and recovery operations. The group arrived in Conroe late on Monday and was sent to Humble on Tuesday morning.
Prior to the storm, Allen Streets and Drainage Foreman Ronnie Bates was activated by the state and traveled to Austin to help with Harvey preparations. Bates is a founding member of the North Texas Public Works Response Team and helped coordinate aid during historic flooding near Austin in 2015. Though no longer stationed at the State Operations Center, Bates remains on call to help with recovery efforts.
The City will remain in contact with state agencies during Harvey's aftermath. Allen Police encourage residents to be aware of potential scams attempting to capitalize on this disaster. Officers recommend funneling all donations through a reputable non-profit organization such as the Red Cross or Salvation Army; Allen-based Trusted World is also partnering with the Red Cross and FEMA to coordinate volunteers and donations. To report scams or price-gouging, contact the Texas Attorney Generals Consumer Protection Hotline at (800) 621-0508 or consumeremergency@oag.texas.gov.
