A new trail connection will allow visitors to enjoy both history and nature on a single stroll.
The Cottonwood Creek/Heritage Village Hike and Bike Trail Connection will link Hydrous Wakeboard Park, Allen Senior Recreation Center and Allen Heritage Village. Enhancements include a pedestrian bridge spanning a wooded area between Allen Senior Recreation Center (ASRC) and Hydrous, along with benches, arbors and a raised vegetable garden.
The trail offers more convenient walking and biking options for Allen seniors and provides all residents with easy connectivity between Allen Heritage Village, Allen Station Park and the Allen Historic Water Station.
Allen City Council approved a $720,000 construction contract with North Rock Construction, LLC during the September 12 council meeting. A Collin County Parks and Open Space grant will fund nearly half of the construction budget. Funding from Allen Community Development Corporation will cover the balance.
Work is expected to begin on October 2 with an anticipated completion date in March 2018.
