Federal funding distributed by the City of Allen will help residents avoid evictions and keep their utilities running.
Each year, Allen receives a Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The City uses most of the funding to operate its Home Repair Assistance Program, which helps eligible homeowners tackle emergency repairs or rehabilitation projects. Up to 15% of the annual grant may be distributed to local agencies working to prevent homelessness and expand the supply of decent, safe and affordable housing.
Allen Community Outreach (ACO) met the qualifications for this funding by providing one-time rent and utility assistance to eligible residents. The agency will receive $51,433 to distribute throughout the 2017-2018 fiscal year. ACO estimates this amount will help 116 individuals and families avoid evictions and/or interruptions in utility service in the upcoming year.
Allen City Council approved the fund distribution during the Oct. 10 meeting. Learn more about Allen’s CDBG funding.
