More than 1,000 residents dropped off books, bikes, shredding, shoes and more during Allen Recycles Day on Nov. 4.
The annual event diverted more than 120,000 lbs. of recyclable materials from the landfill, including 4,200 lbs. of cardboard, 20,280 lbs. of shredding, and 1,772 lbs. of books. Residents also donated 300 lbs. of animal care supplies, 714 lbs. of shoes, 1,720 lbs. of bikes and 48,000 lbs. of clothing and household goods to support local organizations including the SPCA of Texas, Salvation Army, Re-Cycles McKinney and Reuse-a-Shoe.
Allen Recycles Day is one of two community-wide recycling events hosted by the City of Allen each year. The next event, Great American Cleanup, will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Allen Recycles Day will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.
