Next year, the Allen Public Library will be adding over 700 items to its digital catalog through participation in cloudLibrary.
CloudLibrary is an online service that allows library patrons to search for, check-out, and read e-books and other digital content directly from their smart phones or computers. Approved by Allen City Council at the Dec. 12 meeting, cloudLibrary will also allow Allen Public Library patrons to access over 80,000 digital items from other participating city libraries including McKinney, Lewisville, and Carrollton.
Initial integration and yearly maintenance of the new digital service will cost $1,000, and the Library will be required to license at least $10,000 per fiscal year in additional content from cloudLibrary. The Library’s existing budget will fund the full cost for cloudLibrary integration and upkeep.
