The City of Allen’s Fire Station #2 has received the Satellite Gold Award from Firehouse.com’s 2017 Station Design Awards.
The new Fire Station #2 was selected due to its lodge-like aesthetic, open concept living quarters, and state of the art equipment. The station’s redesign considered firefighters’ daily activities, ensuring quick and easy access to emergency equipment from anywhere in the facility.
Allen Fire Chief Bill Hawley also believes that the station was selected because of the redesign’s focus on firefighter health and wellness.
“[Firefighters] often see a lot of unfortunate things on the job,” said Hawley. “So, we wanted to make sure the station addressed the psychological needs of our firefighters.”
A balanced combination of shared and private areas, green spaces, and plenty of natural light helps firefighters unwind during rare stretches of free time.
Located near the intersection of Exchange Parkway and Allen Heights, Fire Station #2’s remodel was completed in October 2016.
