Police Officer ceremony

The Allen Police Department welcomed one new officer and promoted another during a ceremony held on Friday, February 9.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence for Richardson Police Officer David Sherrard, who was killed two days before. Judge Cynthia Gore, who administered the officer’s oaths, emphasized the importance of their duty and the value of support from their families and community.

Officer Thomas Van Benthuysen has served with the Allen Police Department since 2012, before which he served four years with the United States Marines Corps. While serving with the Allen Police Department, Benthuysen has spent time as a Patrol Officer, SWAT Operator/Grenadier, and a Field Training Officer. On Friday, Benthuysen was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and his badge was pinned by his wife Monica.

Recently hired by the Allen Police Department, Officer Julian Adames served with the Dallas Police Department from 2005 to 2017. During this time, he served as a Field Training Officer, a Detective in the Property Crimes Unit, and a Detective in the Robbery Unit. Adames has over 12 years of law enforcement experience and is committed to the Allen Police Department’s high standard of excellence, service, and professionalism. Adames was sworn in on Friday.
