[ARCHIVED] Allen Historic Water Station Wins TOMA Award

TOMA Award

For the second year in a row, Allen Parks and Recreation has been presented with a TOMA Award from the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute for completing a project that has advanced the City of Allen’s parks system.

The Allen Historic Water Station restoration project was named the winner of the 2018 TOMA Award for Creative Projects at the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute’s annual conference held in February at Sequoyah State Park in Hulbert, Oklahoma.

After being threatened by record-breaking floods, the Allen Historic Water Station was carefully restored and made accessible to the public through park improvements by the City of Allen. The water station is a Texas State Archaeological Landmark that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 2017, Allen Parks and Recreation was presented with the TOMA Award for Creative Projects for completing the Cottonwood Creek Trail Extension, which included the installation of a new bridge with public art.

As a nonprofit organization, the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute has the mission of presenting and promoting educational opportunities to students, professionals and lay supporters in the field of Parks and Recreation.
