A mural is being painted on the Windridge Park seating wall, which borders the playground, so the wall and playground slides facing it will be temporarily closed from April 16-19 until the mural is completed.
The rest of the park will remain accessible during the mural’s installation, and the closed area is scheduled to reopen on April 20.
The City of Allen selected seasoned Texas artist Jon David DeLeon of San Antonio to create an acrylic-based mural for the new park. DeLeon worked with Boyd Elementary School and Allen High School art students to develop the mural’s concept, allowing the students, many of whom live in the neighborhood, to play a role in the creation of the art.
Artist DeLeon has been a muralist for more than 30 years. Often working in underserved communities, DeLeon seeks input from young artists and students to develop his artwork with the goal of providing a positive influence, mentorship and artistic guidance to the community. Throughout his career, DeLeon has designed, airbrushed and hand-painted numerous community and corporate murals.
Windridge Park is located at 1015 Cambridge Drive (the corner of Cambridge Drive and Hanover Drive) in Allen. The park includes a playground structure, swing set, covered pavilion and basketball hoop. For additional details about Allen’s park system and public art, please visit AllenParks.org.
