Allen Senior Recreation Center members now have more opportunities to get active outdoors with the official opening of a new garden and trail at the recreation facility.
Mayor Stephen Terrell and Allen City Council held a ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Allen Senior Recreation Center Garden and Trail on Thursday, May 17 for the senior members.
The garden, which is covered by an arbor, has raised planting beds for vegetables, which will be used in lunches at Allen Senior Recreation Center.
The new 1,280-foot hike and bike trail also has a new 12-foot-wide bridge, which connects to the trail in neighboring Allen Station Park, providing senior members with new opportunities to get active on Allen’s trail system.
Development of the project was achieved with half of the funding provided by the Allen Community Development Corporation (the ½ cent sales tax board) and the other half from a grant through the Collin County Parks and Open Space Funding Assistance Program.
