Allen Senior Recreation Center members now have more opportunities to get active outdoors with the official opening of a new garden and trail loop at the recreation facility.
Mayor Stephen Terrell and Allen City Council held a ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Allen Senior Recreation Center Garden and Trail on Thursday, May 17 for the senior members.
Covered by an arbor, the garden, which includes raised planting beds for vegetables and herbs, will be tended to by Allen Senior Recreation Center members.
A new 12-foot-wide bridge connects the quarter-mile crushed granite walking loop to the trail system in neighboring Allen Station Park, providing senior members with additional opportunities to get active on Allen’s trail system.
Development of the project was achieved with half of the funding provided by the Allen Community Development Corporation (the ½ cent sales tax board) and the other half from a grant through the Collin County Parks and Open Space Funding Assistance Program.
