A plan to improve the traffic flow on Alma Drive will move forward following a unanimous vote from Allen City Council.
During the June 12 meeting, council members voted to award a $2.3 million contract to construct Phase 2 of the Alma Drive Project. Among the improvements will be an update to the intersection of Alma and McDermott with additional turning lanes and a new traffic signal, completion of Alma Drive south of Rainforest Drive to a six-lane divided roadway, and creation of dedicated right turn lanes at key locations.
Twelve mature trees will be uprooted during construction, transplanted off-site, and reinstalled in the Alma Drive median at the end of the project, with new median landscaping between Rainforest and Bel Air.
Construction is expected to begin this summer, with anticipated completion in summer 2019.
