Councilmember Lauren Doherty has begun her term on Allen City Council.
Doherty took the oath of office during the June 26 council meeting. She replaces Councilmember Debbie Stout, who was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Joey Herald in December 2017. Doherty’s term will run from 2018 to 2021.
Doherty holds a degree in Astrophysics from Princeton University. An Allen resident since 2005, she serves as the PTA President for Beverly Elementary in Plano ISD and works with a local refugee assistance organization called Entangled Happiness. Previously she worked with CASA of Collin County as a child advocate, served on the Executive Committee of the Alumni Council of Princeton University and served on the board of the Endowment for Youth Committee in Santa Barbara, California. She lives in Allen with her husband Brian and two sons, Ethan and Jacob.
More than 100 people attended a public reception to welcome Councilmember Doherty and recognize reelected Mayor Pro Tem Gary L. Caplinger and Councilmember Kurt Kizer before the June 26 meeting. Mayor Stephen Terrell also presented a framed proclamation to Councilmember Stout to express gratitude for her service.
