Members of the Parks and Recreation Board and Public Art Committee reported on their work of improving Allen’s public spaces during the City Council Meeting on July 10.
The Parks and Recreation Board helped guide several parks projects in 2017-2018, including the renovation of Green Park, the opening of Windridge Park and the Allen Senior Recreation Center Garden & Trail. The Board has also been instrumental in guiding the Spirit Park project – a 75-acre community park which will open later this year. Members also help oversee events like Eggcellent Family Adventure and Market Street Allen USA Celebration.
Often working in tandem with the Parks and Recreation Board, the Public Art Committee helps enhance Allen’s community spaces through the commission of public artwork. Notable highlights from the Committee’s year so far include the creation and dedication of the Windridge Park Seating Wall Mural and the launch of the Mobile Allen Public Art Review & Tour (MAP ART).
Upcoming projects for the Public Art Committee include the installation of artwork and building enhancements at Spirit Park and the commencement of the Allen Event Center Rotunda Project.
