The United States Postal Service is asking for feedback on plans to build a new postal facility in Allen.
USPS Real Estate Specialist Sandra Rybicki presented two options during the Oct. 9 Allen City Council meeting. The first would relocate the Allen main post office from 304 W Boyd Drive to a new, 26,000-square-foot facility. Though a potential site has not been chosen, USPS would focus its search within the boundaries of Exchange Parkway, Bethany Drive, Greenville Avenue and US 75.
The second option would keep the Allen main post office at 304 W. Boyd Drive but add a smaller carrier annex elsewhere in Allen. The annex would not provide any retail services and would not be open to the public.
“In the case of the Allen main post office, it’s obvious that the facility is extremely space deficient and does not allow for efficiency of the operation or convenience to the customer,” said Rybicki.
USPS has taken steps to notify Allen city leaders and members of the public as required by law. A 30-day comment period will run through Thursday, November 8. During this time, members of the public may write letters expressing support or opposition to the options outlined during this 12-minute presentation. These comments will be considered before USPS makes a final decision on building a new facility.
Through October 17, 2018, comments should be sent to PO Box 667180, Dallas, TX 75266. After October 17, mail comments to 660 Data Drive, Plano, TX 75075.
