Whether trapped in a car or in the path of a dangerous storm, Allen citizens will benefit from new tools coming to Allen Fire Department.
Allen City Council agreed to fund two major improvements to fire department equipment at the Oct. 23 meeting. The first involves upgrading rescue tools commonly referred to as the “Jaws of Life.” The new devices are battery-operated and capable of cutting through metals found in newer vehicles. Six of them will cost $153,000, paid for by dedicated state funding.
The other upgrade is to parts and software for Allen’s storm siren network. The $140,000 investment will transition the storm siren software from analog to digital and overhaul the current activation software, allowing better service in emergency situations. This project will be funded as part of the 2018-2019 City budget, as approved by Allen City Council in September.
