New traffic patterns have prompted changes to school zones surrounding the recently-completed Lowery Freshman Center.
The new Allen ISD facility opened in August 2018, shifting most vehicle and foot traffic to the north end of the property. City of Allen engineers studied traffic changes and worked with Allen ISD and Allen Police before recommending changes to the previous school zone.
On November 13, Allen City Council unanimously approved a plan to eliminate school zones on Main Street and Jupiter Road (south of Main Street) due to changing pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Instead, the school zone on Greenville Avenue will be extended to 200 feet north of Pebblebrook Drive.
School zone signs on Main Street and Jupiter Road (south of Main Street) have already been removed. Additional signs will be added to the area north of Pebblebrook later in 2018.
