Police dispatching and record-keeping is getting a major boost thanks to new technology.

Following an exhaustive search, Allen Police selected CentralSquare Technologies to help the department dispatch calls, make police reports, document evidence and keep other records. The $2.1 million price tag includes $706,000 in hardware to replace 10-year-old servers, along with $1.394 million in software and training.

Allen’s police and finance departments vetted potential systems by compiling a list of more than 5,000 requirements for interested vendors. A series of on-site and online demonstrations, reference checks and site visits helped narrow the list. Ultimately, a committee of officers, dispatchers and others who will use the software concluded CentralSquare Technologies best met the department’s requirements.

Over the next year, the system will be custom-built to fit Allen’s needs. Deputy Chief Ken Myers expects police personnel will begin using the updated tools in June 2020. Eventually the system will include features geared toward citizens, such as the ability to complete a basic police report or view crime statistics by neighborhood.
