Allen City Council welcomed a new face on Tuesday.
Chris Schulmeister was sworn in as Councilmember Place 4 during the May 14 meeting. A longtime Allen resident and active member of the community, Schulmeister previously served on the Allen Economic Development Corporation Board (2016-2019) and the Allen Community Development Corporation Board (2011-2016). He was the finance committee chair for Allen’s 2016 Capital Improvement Program.
Schulmeister replaces councilmember Robin L. Sedlacek, who did not seek reelection. Sedlacek was elected to Allen City Council in 2007 after more than a decade serving on City boards and commissions. Fellow councilmembers praised her meticulous research, probing questions and leadership of the group’s nominating committee.
Citizens filled the City Hall rotunda to honor Sedlacek’s years of service and meet the 2019-2020 Allen City Council, including Schulmeister and re-elected councilmember Baine Brooks. Mayor Stephen Terrell presented Sedlacek with a framed proclamation listing her many accomplishments.
Allen City Councilmembers are elected at-large, with each representing the entire city and not a specific district. Council meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Allen City Hall.
