Allen Parks and Recreation is taking precautionary measures to protect its senior population from exposure to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) by closing the Allen Senior Recreation Center until further notice. Registration, reservations and rentals also are suspended during this time. Refunds will be offered on impacted activities.
This decision was made in conjunction with other steps taken to protect the senior population, including:
Allen Parks and Recreation is not aware of any staff members nor facility visitors with suspected cases of COVID-19.
The City of Allen will reassess the situation each week and may choose to extend the closure if conditions warrant. Weekly updates will be posted by noon each Friday at CityofAllen.org/Operations and on the City’s closure hotline, 214.509.4117.
Staff at Allen Senior Recreation Center will be reassigned to other tasks during the closure period.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designates older adults and those with serious chronic medical conditions as having a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19. For these groups, the CDC recommends avoiding crowded spaces and staying home if many people in the community get sick.
