Serve your city as a volunteer on City of Allen’s boards and commissions. Allen City Council will consider 29 positions for appointment. Applicants are encouraged to attend at least one meeting of the board or commission they wish to join. The application deadline is August 5, 2020. Learn more and apply.

How does it work?

  • City boards, commissions and committees are ways for citizens to participate in local government by shaping public policy and recommending local legislation.
  • In Allen, members of these appointed groups advise City Council on a variety of topics including planning, zoning, transportation, parks, libraries, building and public art.
  • Members of City of Allen boards, commissions and committees are unpaid volunteers. Any qualified voter with one year of residency in Allen is eligible to apply. 
  • Board, commission and committee members are subject to attendance requirements, the Code of Conduct Ordinance and conflict of interest provisions outlined at CityofAllen.org/Boards.

How do I apply?

  • Twenty-nine positions will be considered by City Council for appointment, including known vacancies on Community Development Corporation (1), Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board (2), Keep Allen Beautiful Board (1) and Planning and Zoning Commission (1). Applicants are encouraged to attend at least one meeting of the board or commission they wish to join. The application deadline is August 5, 2020. 
  • All applications received, including those from incumbents, will be reviewed and considered for interview. Interviews are typically held in late August and early September. Appointments are made in September and are effective October 1. 
  • A mandatory orientation will be held for all appointees on Saturday, September 26, 2020.
