Three City team members were recognized for earning regional awards from the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS).
After surprising these team members at their workplace, Allen Parks and Recreation staff honored Tia McVey, Laura Russell and George Chrisman at last week’s City Council meeting. Watch the announcement video on Facebook. Congratulations to all our award winners! We all know what super star team members we have here in Allen, and we’re proud to see these individuals recognized at the regional level.
Part-Time Employee of the Year
Our “super star” swim coach Tia McVey won the region’s Part-Time Employee of the Year award for her work to bring our COAST (City of Allen Swim Team) program to children this summer, when most other programs were cancelling.

Excellence in Programming
Our amazing Garden Program at Allen Senior Recreation Center, led by Laura Russell, won the Excellence in Programming award! Pictured is Julie Olles accepting the award.

Advocate of the Year
George Chrisman has helped fund our major projects for the last 17 years. We were happy to honor George with the Advocate of the Year award as he recently stepped down from the CDC board.
