New hike and bike connections are coming to northwest Allen with the addition of three new trail segments along Ridgeview Drive.
Allen City Council approved spending $1.49 million to build new segments at the Allen STEAM Center and Spirit Park, along with a loop trail to connect subdivisions near Cinemark, during the December 8 meeting.
The first segment will be a boardwalk-style trail meandering through the forest near the Allen STEAM Center, providing connection points to the future Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center.
“This is a very natural area with a lot of trees, so a boardwalk helps us minimize the number of trees we have to remove. We can create our own path with less concrete,” said Allen Parks & Recreation Director Kate Meacham.
Next, a much-requested new trail segment will be built at Spirit Park to connect Watters Trail and Ridgeview Trail. Finally, a new loop trail will bridge the gap between subdivisions located near Cinemark off SH 121 and Watters Road; when completed, the loop will provide connection to the Cottonwood Trail.
North Rock Construction will build the new trail segments. Work is expected to begin within the next month and be completed by June 2021.
