MAY 6, 2021 - Allen Fire Department ended COVID-19 vaccine hub operations after vaccinating more than 50,000 individuals and administering nearly 100,000 shots. The drive-through vaccine site at Eagle Stadium began operation in late January to help bridge the gap in vaccine distribution until private providers could handle demand.
"For us, it wasn’t about the numbers - though we’re proud of those too," Allen Fire Department shared in a heartfelt Facebook post. "It was about the moments made safer with every shot given. Visiting grandparents. Boarding an airplane. Restaurant meet-ups. Backyard BBQs. Worship services. Weddings. Graduations. Prom. This was a once-in-a-lifetime operation, but it was fueled by the community spirit we see every single day. In Allen, we show up for each other. We care about each other. And that's something 2020 (or any year like it) can never take away from us!"
At the end of its final day of operations, Allen Fire Department had given 94,192 shots, vaccinated 50,114 people and helped Allen achieve a vaccination rate of 73% of adults who had received at least one dose.
