Allen soon takes its next step in creating a regional trail system. City Council approved a design contract at its July 27 meeting for the southern section of the Rowlett Creek Trail Extension.

This trail segment is a major artery of the Collin County Regional Trails Master Plan (formerly known as Six Cities Master Plan) designed to connect Allen, Plano, McKinney, Richardson, Frisco and Garland. The segment travels beneath US 75 and connects Allen and Plano from the Watters Creek area to Oak Point.

Once the southern segment is complete, trail users can take the trail from Spirit Park all the way to Bob Woodruff Park in Plano! Right now, this segment is the only portion that prevents users from connecting across cities.

Cost of design and construction is absorbed by developers of the Rowlett Creek residential area. Any remaining construction cost will come from Community Development Corporation funds, a sales tax entity.

Keep up with progress on this trail segment and other Allen Parks and Recreation projects at LifeinAllen.org/ParksProjects..
