Allen Event Center welcomes area firefighters and police officers for the 20th Annual Guns & Hoses Boxing Tournament at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. Purchase tickets at Ticketmaster.com.

Firefighter-Paramedic Derek Cook represents Allen Fire Department (AFD) in this year’s tournament. Derek, an Allen native, started his Fire/EMS career at age 19. He joined AFD in September 2017 and competed at Guns & Hoses for the first time in 2019.

“It’s truly an awesome event, especially when you're in it,” said Derek. “The crowd it draws really intensifies the atmosphere.”

“The coolest thing for me is being able to represent my department and fight in the town where I grew up. It adds a little pressure, but it’s totally worth it. People don't realize how hard the fighters train for just 3 minutes in the ring. Our team this year has a lot of talent, and we plan on putting on a show.”
