[ARCHIVED] Allen Police launches real-time criminal report notifications

Allen Police Department launched new software that will help keep crime victims automatically updated on the status of their case. This service is the second phase of APD’s SPIDRTech software and further enhances communication between the police department and the people we serve.

Example of an Allen Police SPIDRTech notification on a mobile deviceHow it works
The first phase of SPIDRTech was implemented in early 2020 for non-violent calls. The software sends a text message to 9-1-1 callers acknowledging their need for police assistance. This call-for-service acknowledgment text is followed by a caller survey which provides critical information to APD. The addition of the second phase of this software will provide communication for callers who are victims of a crime.

Now, when a police officer completes a criminal offense report, the victim of a mostly non-violent crime will receive text/email notifications that their crime report is complete. The notification also includes information and resources specific to the type of crime committed. As a criminal offense is investigated, the victim will receive updated messages including when the case is assigned to an investigator and when the case is in active or closed status. Additional notification can be made when the case is referred to the prosecutor’s office and/or an arrest is made.

Upon completion of the investigation, a second survey may be used to provide useful feedback to APD.
