JULY 12, 2022 - The citywide installation of Smart Water Meters is on track to begin in October, offering customers consistent 30-day billing periods, hourly water use data, automatic leak alerts and other features.

Allen City Council approved the purchase of additional Smart Water Meters during the July 12 meeting. These meters will be installed by City staff at commercial businesses and other locations with large-volume water demands. Councilmembers already approved the purchase of residential meters in December 2021.

Contractors will install approximately 100 meters a day beginning in October of this year and ending in late 2023.  Customers will receive a letter and door hanger with details about upcoming work beginning 5-6 weeks before their meter is replaced. New meters will sync with a new customer dashboard, allowing every customer access to hourly water use data, history of past water use, billing estimates for upcoming bills and more. Updates will be posted at CityofAllen.org/SmartMeters.
