[ARCHIVED] Frigid temperatures expected December 22-25

Much colder temperatures arrive on Thursday as a cold front surges south across much of the United States. According to the National Weather Service, the exact timing on the front is still somewhat uncertain. Regardless, the high temperature for Thursday most likely will occur during the morning hours with temperatures falling sharply throughout the day. Peak wind gusts near 45 MPH are likely, and higher wind gusts cannot be ruled out. This will result in wind chill values in the single digits and teens.

Pipes at risk due to prolonged cold

A long duration of well below freezing temperatures and windy conditions may damage exposed outdoor pipes and cause them to burst.  Cover outdoor pipes, and leave indoor faucets on a very slow drip. Locate your water shut-off valve and know how to turn it off, and don't forget to turn off sprinklers! Your can report water/sewer leaks and request an emergency water shutoff by calling our 24-hour Water/Sewer Emergency Line at 214.509.4530.
