Allen businesses and residents should be aware of a series of scams involving false claims regarding water utility bills. Instances of these scams were reported in Lewisville, Dallas and Irving. In each scam, the hotel or business staff were asked to pay delinquent bills to prevent their water from being turned off and received a link to an online cash payment app displaying the City’s logo.
Businesses and residents should always verify the status of a payment request or account inquiry, by calling the City of Allen Utility Billing directly at 214.509.4560. Customers receive alerts via email, text, and/or pink tag notification for delinquent account status and water shut-off. In some cases, the City may attempt to call you with a courtesy reminder for delinquent status; however, City staff will not accept credit card payments over the phone or via cash app. Utility customers can pay all billing online through their registered utility billing account or at the payment window on the first floor of Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
It’s important to note that scammers can mask phone numbers so they appear to come from the City of Allen or another official entity. You can always verify by calling the City of Allen Utility Billing department directly or by accessing your online account information.
