[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Recruited for New Park Ambassador Program

Recently named as a National Gold Medal Award finalist for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, the City of Allen has developed one of the best park systems around. In an effort to ensure the ongoing quality of the city’s parks and trails, the Allen Parks Foundation is currently recruiting volunteers to launch a new park ambassador program. The program will encourage citizen involvement within the parks and trails to help monitor concerns and interact with users.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age, pass a background check, and be willing to serve at least two hours a month from April through October. Applications are being accepted online at AllenParksFoundation.org. An orientation is tentatively scheduled for later this month.

Park ambassadors will patrol the parks and trails during daylight hours and report maintenance concerns, safety issues, suspicious activities, or any incidents involving park visitors. In addition, ambassadors will help educate park users about facilities, programs, and park rules and regulations. Ambassadors will be provided with a t-shirt and identification badge and must carry a cell phone for reporting and emergency use needs.
