[ARCHIVED] State Confirms Skunk Test Positive for Rabies

(Allen, Texas) City of Allen Animal Control received confirmation from the Texas Department of Zoonosis that a skunk found and seized by Animal Control Officers in the alley between Aylesbury Drive and Harvard Lane on July 1, tested positive for rabies.

Animal Control Officers were called by several residents in the area with a report of a possible sick skunk. Animal Control Officers were able to seize the skunk which was then sent to the state for testing.

Animal Control received confirmation on Friday, July 4, that the skunk was positive for rabies.

Animal Control has not received any reports that the skunk had come into direct contact with either humans or animals. If you suspect your pet could have come in contact with the skunk, please contact Allen Animal Control at 214.509.4378 or your veterinarian.

As a reminder, citizens are asked to contact Allen Animal Control if they see any animals acting strangely and should not attempt to approach the animals.
